DEER PARK, Wash.  --  Authorities began looking into an attempted child abduction on Wednesday when a mother claimed that someone tried to snatch her infant from a stroller earlier in the week.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies said the child was unbuckled and picked up from a stroller by a random woman.

The incident happened when the mother was at Arcadia Elementary School to pick up school supplies.

Authorities said the mother had her back turned to the infant at the time of the incident.

Deputies said the suspect fled the scene after being confronted by the mother.

The baby and mother were unhurt in the attempted abduction.

Deputies identified a person of interest in the case and said parents in the area should not worry.  Authorities have asked that any witnesses contact the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
