SPOKANE, Wash. -- People living at an apartment complex near NorthTown Mall say someone is arranging dead animals with other random objects in a way that looks like some sort of weird sacrifice.
Early Wednesday morning, tenants at the apartments near Francis and Ruby noticed a dead cat at the bottom of a staircase. Next to the cat, someone had placed a highlighted Bible, another religious book and a bottle of water.
Spokanimal officers came to investigate but said there was no blood or any obvious signs the cat was sacrificed. Officers believe the cat died on its own.
After the cat’s body was taken away and the items were picked up, a dead mouse surrounded by a religious pamphlet, a penny and a piece of bread appeared in the same spot.
This time, tenants called Crime Check to report the occurrences, but Spokane police decided not to investigate. Officers said there is no evidence to suggest something illegal happened.
Neighbors feel irked and said they are nervous the occurrences may lead to something more.
Property managers planned to increase security in the wake of the strange incidents.
