A spokesman for Casey Kasem’s daughter said Thursday the legendary DJ’s health is declining and his blood pressure is dangerously low.
Both Jean Kasem, Casey’s wife, and Kerri Kasem, his daughter, are at a medical facility in Kitsap County where the 82-year-old was taken by ambulance Sunday.
Jean and Kerri have been in a legal dispute over Casey’s care after Kerri raised concerns over his well-being. Jean and Casey had been staying with friends in Bremerton. Casey suffers from a form of dementia.
Jean was served with a California court order last month that temporarily suspended her powers to determine Casey’s medical treatment and expanded Kerri’s authority to determine whether her father is receiving adequate care.
Jean had been in control of his medical care and has controlled access to him, blocking three of his children from seeing him in recent months, according to court filings. She issued a statement responding to the ruling.
A Kitsap County judge ruled last Friday that Kerri would be allowed one-hour daily visits with her father.
But, on Sunday, Casey was taken away by ambulance after an argument between Jean and Kerri. Jean was screaming as paramedics removed her husband and threw raw meat at Kerri, who is her stepdaughter.
"I believe it' self explanatory," said Kasem following the court hearing, "But if you need to know why I did it, because when a person is about to pass away, there are always rabid dogs."
Jean played a cell phone recording last week of what she said was Casey moaning and crying after learning his daughter was going to be able to take him to the doctor.
