This year the section of SR 20 from Mazama to Newhalen closed on Dec. 3. Crews started work March 31 to reopen the road. Crews depend on snow blowers and bulldozers to clear snow up to 35 feet deep over the roadway, according to a news release.

Generally, it takes four to six weeks for crews to clear the highway.
