SPOKANE, Wash. -- A North Spokane man said his car has been prowled and vandalized so many time he has resorted to sleeping in his car.
Tom Swartzfager said instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself he has decided to sleep in his car until he catches the troublemakers tormenting his neighborhood.
“They don't belong here. Nothing in my vehicle belongs to them so they are trespassing. I can restrain them until the police show up or don’t show up,” said Swartzfager.
People living off Division on Graves said car prowlers are hitting their streets.
Swartzfager said he is their go to target. He said the crooks are taking whatever they can get their hands on. He said he has filed numerous police reports with no responses.
Earlier this week, Swartzfager started sleeping in his car every night.
“I sleep on the passenger seat, put the center console up and just wait. If they so much as reach their arm in, it’s basically fair game. Their body parts stay with me,” said Swartzfager.
Swartzfager said he does not even miss the comfort of his home and bed. He said the discomfort would be well worth it when he catches the prowlers.
