SPOKANE, Wash. -- Someone stole a truck from the YMCA in North Spokane and totaled it.

The truck was stolen back in January and the person who took it went on a joy ride and totaled it.

The non-profit used the truck on a regular basis. They do not have the funding to buy a new or used truck now that it is gone.

“One thing a lot of people don’t know, the YMCA is a non-profit. And so we do rely on donations and support from our community,” said Facilities Director Alice Young.

The truck helps to bring in equipment to the YMCA including, supplies for the pool, materials needed to build a playground and the logs around the outdoor climbing wall. The YMCA is now sharing a truck with another location.

This truck is normally at the Central Y, closer to Downtown Spokane but for now both locations have to share it. That's why staff aren't taking any chances and are keeping the steering wheel locked at all times," said Young.

Youth programs will require many materials to be move including dirt and bark. The YMCA has a garden that will need a truck this summer.

Anyone who has information on who may have stolen the truck is asked to call 509-777-YMCA (9622).

If you can help the YMCA or know someone who might be able to help them get another truck, they would also like to hear from you.
