SPOKANE, Wash. -- A local woman was blown away when she saw her son on the Crime Stoppers' most wanted list Thursday because he had already been in jail for more than one year.

Cindy Cronk said this was not the first time authorities wrongfully sought her son, Jeremy Cronk. She said deputies came to her home with guns drawn looking for him once before since he had in jail.

Crime Stoppers' most wanted list is reviewed every single day to ensure the subjects have active warrants. Officials admitted that sometimes things can slip through the cracks. They said they believed that is what happened in this case.

Cronk’s son Jeremy had already been caught. She said he had been addicted to drugs and was just trying to do his time. Records showed he had been incarcerated for over a year in Idaho. Cronk said she tried to tell them he was already in jail, but no one would listen.

On Friday, KREM 2 News told Cronk her son had been taken down from the list.

“We had no idea," said Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Chamberlain. "If you wouldn’t have called us or the family wouldn’t have contacted you, we still wouldn’t have known and he’d still be up there now.”

There were two warrants out for Jeremy Cronk's arrest in Spokane. Crime Stoppers staff said they were not notified that he was already in custody and they can not do triple background checks unless it is an active investigation.

If you see anyone on the list who you know is in jail, you are urged to call their hotline number and let them know. They will do an investigation and verify they are in fact in custody.
