SPOKANE, Wash. -- Construction crews are making progress on the new Downtown hotel in Spokane by the Convention Center.
The project is still more than a year from being finished. Over the next few months, you will notice a dramatic difference at the construction site.
Crews completed the second floor of the hotel this week. Staff with the Davenport Hotel Collection, who owns the future Convention Center Hotel, is impressed with how fast the project is moving along.
“It’s progressing really quickly, and it’s fun to see it come out of the ground,” said Hotel Director of Marketing, Matt Jensen.
In the next few months, they expect to have the first few floors finished. New renderings of the hotel give a better look at what it will look like in the summer of 2015. The company wants it to stand out from anything else already in Downtown.
The hotel will have more than 700 rooms. A floor plan for the main level shows the 18,000 square feet ballroom and additional meeting space. Managers for the project said they are already getting interest from groups that want to host their convention in Spokane next year or in 2016.
Construction is also starting on the 900 space-parking garage on the same site. Crews are on track to finish on time but in just a few months, you should see the building completed on the outside.
Crews hope to have a roof on the 15-story building this fall so they can spend the winter and the first half of 2015 finishing the inside of the new hotel.
Staff said they are close to naming the hotel. The brand or chain of hotels that is going to be a part of the building could be announced in the next few weeks.
