Idaho 21 remains closed due to avalanche threats

BOISE COUNTY - The 12-mile stretch of Idaho 21 between the Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit known as "Avalanche Alley," remains closed Monday due to recent snowfall and avalanche dangers.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the route will be evaluated "regularly" for the possibility of reopening.

ITD reports the area received 26 inches of snow over the weekend and the temperature was 6 degrees at 7 a.m. Monday.

Cleanup work is in progress, but the avalanche danger in still considerable.

Avalanche Alley has closed once already this winter. ITD reports 9 avalanches tumbled down to the highway on the weekend of January 10.
