Thousands of people all around the world are mourning the loss of super cat Colonel Meow, who died Wednesday night.

Colonel's "mom," Anne Marie Avey, posted the sad news on Facebook on Thursday afternoon, saying "Colonel Meow passed away last evening. I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both."

In November, "minions" all around the world sent prayers and healing thoughts when Colonel was critically ill and in the hospital.

Anne Marie posted on Facebook that Colonel was in the hospital and doctors could not figure out what is wrong with him. It was finally determined that it was his heart.

A fundraising campaign raised $15,000 in six hours for Colonel's care. He did get well enough to go home, but now comes the sad news.

Colonel gained worldwide fame for his crazy look and "angry" expression, though in reality he was  big creampuff. He loved a good drink of scotch, did NOT like Justin Bieber, and had a love-hate relationship with sister dog Boots ("Damn it, Boots!").

He was adopted by owners Anne Marie and Eric Rosario several years ago after he was  found abandoned by the side of the road and taken in by Seattle Persian and Himalayan Society. They lived in Seattle but later moved to Los Angeles.

In September, the Himalayan/Persian mix set a Guinness World Record for the longest fur. He is featured in the Guinness World Records 2014 book

He has more than 340,000 faithful fans - "minions" - on his Facebook page.
