STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -- Authorities said an Airway Heights Correctional Facility inmate was killed during an accident Thursday while working with the Department of Natural Resources.

Officials said the inmate, Daniel James Hall, 47, was on a work crew with DNR in Stevens County when he was killed Thursday.

Authorities said the accident happened around 1 p.m. while Hall was cleaning up DNR land that was recently logged. Hall was part of a crew of 10 people. The crew included inmates and DNR staff.

Hall was expected to be released in September 2014. Hall has been in jail since January 2011 for drugs and auto theft.

The Department of Corrections is investigating what happened and cannot release how Hall died.

The accident is similar to one that happened to another inmate one year ago. Last October, an inmate cutting down a tree near a power line was electrocuted. The inmate was helping fight and prevent wildfires and was thinning out the trees.
