PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Doctors say the Puyallup 7-year-old girl attacked and left in the woods behind her apartment had been raped.
Prosecutors revealed more details in the case Friday as the 14-year-old boy accused of the assault appeared in juvenile court.
According to investigators, the boy lured the girl by asking her if she wanted to see a bird’s nest. Once in the woods, the boy admitted to repeatedly hitting and choking the girl, despite her screams for him to stop.
When he realized he might get in trouble, detectives said he told them he “had to get rid of her so she couldn’t tell anyone.” Investigators said the boy squeezed the girl’s throat until she passed out.
Hours later, police found her Wednesday night. She survived, but during the court appearance Friday, investigators revealed she had been raped. The boy denied sexually assaulting the girl.
The state is holding the boy on kidnapping, rape and attempted murder charges. The prosecutor says the county will consider the boy’s youth when determining if he’ll be treated as an adult.
The 7-year-old victim remains in serious condition at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. She suffered bruising and cuts to her face and neck and had to go through surgery.
