FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash.-- Family of the Tech Sergeant killed in the KC-135 crash Friday are remembering him for the pride he brought them.
Those who knew Herman Mackey III said he remains an inspiration to all of them.
Mackey’s family said he joined the Air Force right after he graduated from high school in California and wasn't stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base for very long.
“He had many plans for the future. He was a good person, a good family man. He was family oriented,” said Mackey’s mother-in-law, Mary Davis.
Mackey and his wife had a daughter named Payton. His mother-in-law said starting a family changed his focus but didn’t take away from his dedication to the Air Force.
His siblings said he inspired them on a daily basis. His wife said Mackey was someone who always made a grand entrance and could light up a room.
Mackey’s family members in California said they hope to have a local memorial to honor his service.
