FAIRCHILD AIR BASE, Wash. -- Fairchild Air Base has a faced a tragedy similar to Friday's crash in Kyrgyzstan.
On January 15, 1999 a KC 135 crashed less than one mile from the base in Germany and killed all four people on board. The plane's home base was Fairchild Air Base.
The plane was on a routine refueling mission that was part of a NATO exercise.
The investigation of the crash lasted approximately 30 days, but the findings were not released which is common in an Air Force investigation.
