For the sixth consecutive year, Washington was named the most bicycle-friendly state in the country by the League of American Bicyclists.

The league released the list Wednesday, on the first day of national bike month, and placed Colorado and Oregon just below the Evergreen state.

To create the list, the league measured each state's cycling success in five categories, including legislation and enforcement, infrastructure and funding, and evaluation and planning.

This year, Washington and Colorado were the highest ranking — scoring more than 80 percent — in the 'legislation and enforcement scoring' category, which examines basic laws and regulations that govern bicycling.

Washington was also the only state to score more than 80 percent in the 'education and encouragement' category, which evaluates the amount of bicycling education for adult and youth cyclists, and individual and professional drivers.
