COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho.--The controversial remake of McEuen Park is starting to come together. Crews have already installed a new playground and some basketball courts.
KREM 2 News went behind the scenes and got a private tour of the nearly $19million park.
"It's really nice. The old fields were uh, served their purpose,” said Bill Greenwood, Interim Parks Director.
While the multi-million dollar remodel has created plenty of controversy, construction is on schedule. The park is gaining four acres along with several new features.
"We have two basketball courts, we have two tennis courts, along with pickle ball in there,” said Greenwood.
A splash pad is also a new addition to McEuen Park.
"At the front end, there's kind of a water cannon that gets put there. There's another once placed outside,” said Greenwood.
The new park will have a brand new parking garage with nearly 500 spaces. City leaders hope to open the park by late spring of 2014.
