CANYON COUNTY, Idaho -- Police say a 32-year-old Nampa man was struck by a pickup as he ran from an Idaho State Police officer Tuesday afternoon.
Corporal Jens Pattis with the Idaho State Police reports stopping 32-year-old Roberto Solario of Nampa near milepost 30 for speeding around 3:15 p.m.
Pattis says he asked Solario to get out of the car at some point during the traffic stop.
Solario did get out of the car -- and ran into the westbound lanes of Interstate 84. Solario was hit by a Ford F-250 pickup driven by 64-year-old Nicky Adams of New Plymouth.
An ambulance took Solario to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where he is in serious condition after undergoing surgery.
ISP dispatch says there were also a couple other crashes in the westbound lanes between milepost 30 and 33 around the same time Tuesday afternoon.
Traffic was backed up for several hours as police investigated and cleared the scene.
