PORTLAND -- A Portland teen accused of killing his father and wounding his mother used two swords, a knife and a .22-caliber handgun in the attack.
Jacob James Simon, 18, was arrested Wednesday, accused of murder, unlawful use of a weapon and third-degree assault.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said Simon killed his father, Peter Anton Simon, 61, during a family dispute, and wounded his 58-year-old mother, Sheryl Lynn Simon.
Simon pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, wearing an anti-suicide smock over his chest. He was also ordered not to make any attempts to contact his mother, who has since been released from the hospital.
"Very tragic situation really," said Simpson. "There are other children from other marriages that today have to face the fact that dad is deceased and brother is in jail for killing him."
Police said the attack occurred at the family's mobile home, in the Fox Run Trailer Park at 9000 NE Martin Luther King Blvd. Someone called 911 to report a family dispute and officer responded quickly.
Neighbors told KGW they were having a difficult time coming to terms with what happened.
"They're always quiet, friendly, waving and laughing at people, having a good time," said a neighbor.
