PORTLAND -- Portland Police need your help tracking down up to three men who were involved in a vicious attack.  It happened early Tuesday morning inside an apartment in the 8900 block of SE Woodstock.

35-year-old David Starliper says he woke up and found three men attacking his 15-year-old daughter with a baseball bat.  He said he stepped in to stop the attack and that is when the men started wailing on him.

"He hit me and tore my ear down right here," said Starliper.  "He swung again and I went to block the bat and that's when he shattered my arm and did all this."

Starliper suffered a broken arm and a broken toe.  His daughter suffered a broken arm and a black eye.

"By this time there's blood all over the place," said Starliper.  "I don't even realize my ear's messed up, arm's broke, got other things broke."

"It doesn't appear to be a robbery, doesn't appear to be drug-related or anything like that," added Portland Police Sergeant Pete Simpson.

Detectives do not believe the attack was random, but they are unsure about a motive.

"You can easily kill someone with a baseball bat with one hit," said Simpson.

And that is why Starliper is adding extra security around his apartment.  He does not want anyone messing with him or his family.

"I won't be able to sleep right until the cops catch these people," said Starliper.  "These kind of people deserve nothing but the worst."

If you know anything about this case you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823 - HELP.  A $1,000 reward is being offered for information.
