SPOKANE, Wash. -- Officials said a 10-year-old boy fell off a chairlift at Mount Spokane Thursday morning.
A spokesperson with Mount Spokane said patrol was able to reach the boy within minutes. Witnesses said the 10-year-old was alert and talking when help arrived.
MedStar was called in to fly the boy to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Officials said it appeared the boy accidentally fell off the lift. Neither wind nor equipment malfunction were believed to be factors.
Managers at Mt. Spokane later released this statement:
"“Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park experienced an incident regarding a chairlift today. The chairlift was operating normally at the time, and continues to operate normally. Safety at Mt. Spokane is paramount. Staff are researching the details of the incident, but decline to comment further at this time. Our thoughts and best wishes are with the guest & family affected by this incident. Again, safety across all aspects of the mountain operation is always our utmost concern.”
