SPOKANE – Three days into a two-week long closure of the Monroe Street bridge, we wanted to see which routes were the quickest.
We drove the suggested detours from the City of Spokane: Maple Street and Washington Street bridges. We also tried the Division Street bridge.
To be consistent, we started at the same location: north of the river at the intersection of Monroe and Indiana. We finished on the south side of the river at Monroe and Sprague.
We timed all three routes and found Maple Street bridge was the most congested route: it took us the longest. On the first day of timing, diverting over to the Division Street bridge got us to our destination the quickest, about one minute faster than the Washington Street bridge.
We will be back out during Wednesday’s morning commute to test the same routes to develop more comprehensive results.
