SPOKANE – It took drivers 13 minutes to drive the three-mile stretch of Interstate 90 from Sprague to Hamilton on Tuesday around 8 a.m.
The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the inside lane of both east and westbound I-90 from Hamilton to Arthur for a project adding light poles and new LED lights to the medians. The current lighting system was installed in the downtown area back in the mid-1960s.
The DOT expects to see 30 percent energy savings with the upgrade.
Drivers will experience delays in the morning and evening during peak travel times. The closure could last through Sunday, June 16.
