SPOKANE, Wash.--Firefighters battled flames at a North Spokane house fire Wednesday afternoon near Wedgewood and Normandie.
The people inside the home safely escaped the burning house according to firefighters. Four adults, three teenagers and a toddler lived in the home according to fire crews.
Firefighters responded the fire around 2:00 p.m. Crews said they arrived and found smoke and flames coming from the house. Those flames destroyed the house according to officials at the scene. Workers from the Red Cross offered to help the family.
Spokane Fire Department leaders said the heat was a factor for crews battling the flames. Firefighters were forced to take a break outside each time they needed to switch air tanks. Crews rested on special chairs packed with ice.
