SPOKANE, Wash. — the Washington State Cougar football team is headed to San Diego to play against the Michigan State University Spartans for the Holiday bowl game.

The announcement was made Sunday afternoon.

“We are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to play Michigan State in the Holiday Bowl. Go Cougs,” WSU Head Coach Mike Leach said.

This is the second straight and fourth overall appearance in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl for the Cougs. Last season WSU fell to Minnesota, while it defeated No. 5 Texas in 2003 and narrowly fell to No. 14 Brigham Young in 1981.

The latest College Football Playoff Rankings Sunday put Michigan State at No. 16 and WSU No. 18. The last meeting between the Cougars and Michigan state was in 1977, with a 23-21 win in East Lansing. In total, the Cougars are 2-5 all-time against Michigan state.

According to the Holiday Bowl twitter, the cougars will face off against the Spartans on December 28. The game is set to kickoff at 6:00 p.m.

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl will be televised live nationally by FS1 from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif.
