Despite win, EWU left out of the FCS playoffs

Despite a statement win on the final day of the regular season, Eastern Washington was left out of the FCS Playoffs.

Despite a statement win on the final day of the regular season, Eastern Washington was left out of the FCS Playoffs.

The bracket was released Sunday morning and featured three Big Sky teams: Southern Utah, Weber State and Northern Arizona.

The Thunderbirds and Wildcats finished a game ahead of the Eags, tied for first place, thanks to wins over EWU late in the regular season. The Lumberjacks had an identical 6-2 league mark and 7-4 overall record as Eastern. They made it in despite a 48-20 loss to SUU on Saturday.

A handful of Big Sky teams were bunched up in a complicated playoff picture in the final weeks of the regular season. Aaron Best’s Team was confident that their 59-33 win over Portland State was enough to convince the committee that they were deserving of one of the 24 playoff spots.

Instead the program will be idle during the playoffs for the second time in three years, just missing the cut in year one under head coach Aaron Best
