COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A man recovering from an injury crossed the Ironman finish line Sunday.
Kirk Wood-Gaines has been recovering from an injured Achilles for months. Just a week before the Ironman, he decided to compete.
He finished the race at thirteen hours.
KREM 2 caught up with him at the finish line and asked the Ironman how he felt.
“Like training matters,” Wood-Gaines said. “Because I did not train enough.”
Crossing the finish line at Sunday’s Ironman brought Wood-Gaines Ironman race count to nine. He said he competed in the first Ironman in Coeur d'Alene, and he could not imagine himself on the sidelines for the last.
“Pure, exalted awesomeness,” Wood-Gaines said of his finish. “I spotted my family, got to high five people. Everyone should be able to feel this.”
