Ironman competitor hit by support vehicle in 'fair condition'

Authorities said O’Conner was transported by Life Flight to Kootenai Health due to the seriousness of her injuries.

UPDATE: A hospital spokeswoman said O'Conner has improved to fair condition Monday morning.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- An Ironman competitor is in critical condition after being hit by an Ironman support vehicle Sunday afternoon.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s officials said Crystal O’Conner, 52, of Bozeman, Montana was doing the bike portion of the race when she was hit by the vehicle on Highway 95 near Putnam Road around 1:00 p.m.

Authorities said O’Conner was transported by Life Flight to Kootenai Health due to the seriousness of her injuries.
The driver of the Ironman support vehicle, Michael Fuller, 65, was not injured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
