Volunteers deliver Tools 2 Schools backpacks to students in need

Volunteers get backpacks filled with school supplies ready for students at Sheridan Elementary School.

Volunteers distributed hundreds of backpacks for the Tools 2 Schools campaign on Wednesday. Helpers from Communities in Schools spent the morning packing up the backpacks with school supplies to be delivered to schools throughout Spokane and Cheney.

Volunteers then delivered the backpacks to Sheridan Elementary School.

In all, Tools 2 Schools will help deliver nearly 2,000 backpacks to area-kids throughout Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington.

“This means a lot of kids are going to get a good start to the school year, with school supplies and backpacks they might not otherwise have,” said Chuck Teegarden from Communities in schools. “So it’s a really exciting thing for them as well as for us. It take a lot of the anxiety out of the start of school for them when they're properly equipped. And they're always very excited to get the new backpacks.”

Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort donated more than 500 backpacks and 10-thousand dollars to the cause--and Communities in Schools raised funds and helped distribute the backpacks.

Hoyt, Lewis, and Associates also donated $1,000 on Wednesday to help the Tools 2 Schools program reach its goal.
