Keyboard Cat goes to pet heaven, leaves gaping hole in our internet hearts

Bento was the second keyboard cat, carrying on the viral video legacy.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane’s famous Keyboard Cat died this week, crossing over the Rainbow Bridge to pet heaven.

Keyboard cat's spunk and ability to jam like no other caused him to become one of the first viral videos online. It captured hearts all around the globe.

While the original keyboard cat passed away years ago, another cat named Bento carried on his legacy.

Bento was adopted by Charlie in Spokane. It was hard living up to the legacy, but Bento was up for the challenge.

"Right away, his very first video we made like after a week of being home from the shelter. We put it up and got an offer that day from Microsoft for a pretty good sum of money. He had a big start and it stayed through all the way. He had quite a run," said Charlie Schmidt, keyboard cat's human.

Bento passed away this week. Charlie said there is a chance of another keyboard cat in the future, if he finds one with the right personality in need of a home.
