SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane YMCA will hand out free coats, blankets, socks, beanies and hoodies for people in need on Friday morning.

“We hear a lot of stories about how 'We just don't have any blankets, my kids are going to be so happy, we haven't had these things for our families and now we will be able to stay warm,’” said Christine Brischle, with the North Spokane YMCA. “So, it's just an honor to be able to hear those stories and see the smiles on their faces.”

The YMCA will use the honor system. YMCA representatives ask that people take only what they need, so they have enough to help as many people as they can.

Second Harvest will also be at the event, distributing food from its mobile food bank.

The event begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Central YMCA on Monroe Street. It will run as long as supplies last.
