Recently I taped an ABC News segment talking to Good Morning America's Tory Johnson about saving money after Christmas.  I wanted to be sure to share the tips with you too.

{5 Ways to Save with After Christmas Sales}

Christmas Clearance:

1. Some prices will drop dramatically after Christmas. Items to note: holiday gift sets (lotions, candles), decorations and even Christmas related food items like cookies, etc.

Money Saving Queen Advicestock up for next year. Specifically, Target will start clearance at 30% and it will move over days and weeks to 90% off. This is the best time to buy Christmas lights, trees, lawn blow ups, etc. Some items like candles, lotions, etc can be saved until next year or the packages can be open and discarded and you can use the gift at a different point during the year.

2. Stock Up on Toys: Big box stores like Target and Walmart stock up on toys for the holiday rush. These toys will go on clearance as the store returns to normal stock.

Money Saving Queen Advice…  This clearance will not last long and when it is gone, prices will return to normal for quite some time. The next big toy clearances will not occur until summer. This means now is the time to stock up on toy deals for birthday gifts and other occasions throughout the year.

3.  Shop Winter Clothing: Winter clothes will be clearance out starting the day after Christmas.

 Money Saving Queen Advice… This is a great time to buy yourself new clothing or stock up on kids clothing for next year. You’ll find the lowest prices on flannel pj’s, coats and other outwear and retailers start thinking about Spring.

4.  Shop with Cash Back: If you are going to shop online vs. in store, be sure to shop through Ebates.com or ShopAtHome.com where you can earn cash back on every purchase you make…as much as 30%!

 Money Saving Queen Advice Before you hit the store, check the cash back rate online first. You may find shopping online with coupon codes and cash back is far better than shopping in store.

5.  Price Adjustments: Did you buy your item full price and how it’s half off? Call your store to see if they have a price adjustment policy, that is, they will give you the difference back between the sale price and retail price you paid.

  Money Saving Queen Advice… All you have to do is bring in your receipt and typically the sales ad displaying the new sale price. You’ll find store policies vary on this offering adjustments from 7 days to 60 days after the sale.

Many times when we think about saving money, we're simply looking for clearance sales or we're thinking grocery coupons. Think outside the box and apply strategic shopping to everything you buy.
