*Today's news segment was all about reading the fine print and learning how to score travel size items at no cost which make GREAT donation items! I was going to write an all new post for the segment however, this post from a few yeras ago illistrates the concept perfectly. Do keep in mind, more and more coupons have restrictions on them these days however, if there is no restriction, deals like the ones illustrated below are a goldmine!*
I hope you've been enjoying our Couponing 101 series. Using these money saving strategies will save you hundreds of dollars a month...yes, I said hundreds! It's not scam, pyramid scheme or something weird, it's simply learning how to use coupons strategically. Today, I'm going to talk about travel sizes and before you start to think 'I don't want 20 mini-bottles of shampoo,' hear me out!
First, take a look at your coupons just like the one below. What do you see?
The first thing to notice is the picture. That picture depicts Olay products that run about $4.99-$7.99 each. This means by using this particular coupon, you're still out some cash. However, read the words of the coupon:
"ONE Olay bar, bodywash, in shower body lotion or hand and body lotion." Well, that changes things. We just found out you can use this coupon on ONE Olay bar. Picking up a pack of Olay bars will run you about $2.48 so with this coupon that's .48 which is a GREAT deal!
However, if you take a look at the trial size bins at your local Target, you may find Olay bars (a smaller version obviously) for only .97 each! That means, after coupon, you're looking at FREE Olay bars!
Most coupons will show you a picture of the most expensive items, it really pays to take the time and read your coupon. If you bought enough papers or ordered coupons from a clipping service like CouponsandThingsbyDede.com, then you can stock up on free soap and the fact that it's a trial size won't matter at all if you are able to get enough.
The next thing I want to talk about are clearance sales. Clearance many times has no rhyme or reason so this is why it is important to carry your coupon binder with you every time you enter the store. You can combine your coupons with clearance items making them an even better deal.
Check the end caps of your favorite store every time you go shopping. Make sure you know where your store likes to hide the clearance. For example, I've found my local Walmart has official clearance aisles in the lawn and garden section however, they hide grocery clearance at the very end of the grocery department by the diapers. Trust me, it pays to take an extra look around.
There you have it, two easy ways to save!
