Yesterday I asked this question to our Facebook fans, "What incredibly crazy thing have you done to save money?" We had 62 replies and I wanted to highlight a few of those here:
Diana: "Cut dryer sheets in half. What a PAIN."
Elisa: "Cut cable, bought older car so no car payment, went down to one paycheck to stay home to save daycare cost. Moved to a smaller town for less rent on same size place to live."
Brea: "using old T-shirts for TP. kidding kidding. Selling my 'cool' SUV (with payments) & :gasp: bought a van, with cash."
Amy: "Went to the OKC outlet mall on the Friday it opened lol :)"
Melody: "Quit working to save money. Sounds crazy, but for us, it worked! I didn't make much at all, and was so stressed out and tired from it that I quit cooking at home as much, didn't have time to look for sales/do couponing, and did a lot of retail therapy. lol Now, not to say I don't indulge occasionally now in a bit of retail therapy, but it's not out of stress, just for fun (and I usually have coupons. lol). :)"
Cody: "Repurpose the return envelopes that come with our bills that we pay on-line; save and use the extra napkins that come in our fast food sacks; use junk mail and magazine pages to make my own greeting cards; ask friends to save the tissue paper from birthday parties and showers to use for packing for my business; use the perfumed ads in magazines to make my clothes smell fresh; use .99 Suave shampoo for handwashables, bartered ironing services for scrapbooking supplies."
Melody: "Yeah if we eat out, I save every last extra napkin, packet of salt and plastic spoon there is. lol I know I embarrass my poor husband but he sure is happy when he needs something. :)"
Head over to the Money Saving Queen Facebook page and scroll down the front Wall page a bit until you see where I asked the question, then you'll find the rest of the answers. Tons of creative ideas!
