Riverfront Park prepares the ice at new ice ribbon

The City of Spokane gave the media a tour of the unopened ice ribbon in Riverfront Park. It is slated to open on December 8.

SPOKANE, Wash. – We are now just days away from the ice ribbon opening downtown at Spokane’s Riverfront Park.

The new attraction is slated to open on December 8 at 5 p.m.

Riverfront Park Director, Jon Moog, said previously that the ice ribbon will be the first of its kind on the West Coast. Moog said it will be 16 feet wide and 700 feet long.

“In the summer, you’ll see roller blading, art walks and other programmed activities,” Moog said. “[In the winter] Nearly every day, the ice will be programmed with free ice skating lessons, cheap skate nights, live music, themed dress up days – even for dogs, yoga on ice and happy hours.”

There is also a cafeteria style kitchen where they envision serving things like hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza.

Admission to the ice ribbon will be hourly. Adults will pay $6.50 to get in while children are $4.50 per hour. Skate rentals will be $4.50 but you can bring your own.

The ice ribbon project, Moog said, cost about $10 million.
