CHEWELAH-- The parents of a Chewelah boy vying for a national contest said he won the top prize of $10,000 for Inland NorthWest Honor Flight.

Justin Peterson, 12, was one of the people from across the country recognized by Safeco Insurance for its Community Hero Award.

According to Justin’s parents, he was one of the two vote-getters. The company said that because of the record number of votes received, and how close they were in numbers, they decided to give both charities $10,000.

Peterson previously received $5,000 from Safeco for being a finalist, bringing the company’s total donation to $15,000.

With this latest award, Justin has raised nearly $45,000 for the Inland NorthWest Honor Flight, which sends local veterans to Washington D.C.
