SPOKANE—The latest trip of for the Inland Northwest Honor Flight takes off early Friday headed for Washington D.C.
Several World War II veterans are headed to see the memorial built in their honor at the nation’s capitol. The chapter has taken more than 400 veterans on the trip, all paid for through donations.
Leo Benoit, 85, is currently an active fly fisherman and outdoorsman. But, during the war, he served in the Army and was there to free two concentration camps in Germany. He is just one veteran on this latest trip.
Anyone is welcome to shake hands with the hometown heroes or just give them a send off at 9:30 a.m. at the Spokane International Airport. The group will leave from the Southwest terminal and go through security by 10 a.m before taking off about an hour later.
If you can’t make the send off, the group arrives back in Spokane just before 4 p.m. Sunday.
