SPOKANE -- Over the last two years we have shown you many unique Honor Flight stories as World War II veterans travel to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial built in their honor.  We found an Honor Flight story we've never seen before, the first Honor Flight honeymoon.

Bert Jones is an 89-year-old veteran.  Joann Manley is 79-years-old.  The couple had been dating for a year and a half.  Then Bert proposed to Joan.  She said yes.  The couple bought their rings from a vendor on a beach during a trip to Mexico.  They are getting married this Saturday.  The honeymoon is an unconventional as their marriage.  It will be on a trip to Washington, D.C. on Honor Flight.

Bert said it is not just about seeing the memorial.  He likes the camaraderie with fellow veterans.

"There's going to be guys that were in the Navy and the Marines and all that.  They've all got different stories and sometimes you'll meet a guy who was right next door to ya or something like that," said Bert.

Bert was drafted when he was 20-years-old.  He did communications for the Army Air Corps.  Joann said he has lots of stories.  Even at 89 he tells them vividly.

The wedding is Saturday at Joann's daughter's house.  Then the couple takes off Wednesday for their Honor Flight trip.
