SPOKANE - For the first time ever, distribution from Tom's Turkey Drive is extending its hours. It's all thanks to the generous donations from KREM 2 viewers.
The Salvation Army has extra turkey dinners for families in need. They have about 2,000 turkeys leftover. They are going to be distributed until 6:30 Wednesday night. The Salvation Army believes the overwhelming support from the community is a sign the economy is picking up for the first time in years.
On Wednesday, they gave out about 80 turkeys out of 2,100 that were left over from Tuesday's official distribution. The rest will be back to Second Harvest and will be distributed to all the local food banks. Many will also be saved for Christmas because they had a bad surplus this year.
