SPOKANE -- A 50-year-old woman remains in critical condition after a hit and run accident late Friday night.  Police arrested the driver, believed responsible, a short time later.

The victim is identified as 50-year-old Elain Price-Cornell.  According to court documents, the man accused of hitting her had been drinking alcohol.  29-year-old Cameron Olsness sat in court with his head in his hands most of the time.  He is charged with vehicular assault.  Court documents also show Olsness's girlfriend told police the two of them had been to several bars Friday night.  Olsness was behind the wheel.

They were going west on Spokane Falls Boulevard about to turn south onto Browne.  They continued to yell at each other.  That's when the girlfriend saw their vehicle hit a woman in the road.  Olsness backed up and attempted to go around the woman.  He possibly ran over her a second time.  A witness followed them and saw the two jump out and run.  A sheriff's helicopter hovering above spotted the couple.

Surveillance video shows Olsness jumping over a barbed wire fence.  Police caught him shortly after along with his girlfriend.  Olsness is also accused of hitting his girlfriend.  She was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Police are looking for a second vehicle believed to be behind Olsness's.  It is possible that vehicle also ran over the woman.
