SPOKANE -- A hit and run near the Spokane Convention Center Saturday sends a woman to the hospital with life threatening injuries. But the suspect didn't get away for long. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office used its helicopter to catch the suspected driver as well as a passenger.
The hit and run happened near the intersection of Spokane Falls Blvd. and Browne Street. Spokane police say a 50-year-old woman was crossing the road in the crosswalk. A vehicle hit her, backed up and then drove around the woman. She was found laying on the ground with serious head injuries. Authorities say one witness saw the suspect vehicle leaving the scene, followed it for a few blocks and watched the driver and passenger get out near Sprague and Hatch and take off on foot.
Surveillance video taken from the Sheriff's helicopter shows one person trying to jump over a barbed wire fence. The other, who was hurt, stayed put. A short while later, both were in police custody. Officers booked the suspect driver, 29-year-old Cameron Olsness on vehicle assault and felony hit-and-run charges.
