I live in the Valley, and all over there is something in the rain -- dust, ash? It smears all over the windshield and is covering the vehicles with dirty rain drops. Do you know what it is?
Thanks,
Sandy Brosam
As per Sandy's question, we consulted with KREM 2 Chief Meteorologist Tom Sherry on this matter (we at KREM.com also took notice and were quite interested in the answer).
According to Tom, it's exactly what Sandy thought it was -- dust in the rain. Tom says because the last two days have been blustery, a lot of dry debris and particles were jostled up from the ground by the wind. Over the last 12 hours, all that dirt has been flying around in the air.
When it began sprinkling this morning, each raindrop grabbed hold of some of that dust and dirt, putting it back on the ground and on Sandy's windshield.
