SPOKANE -- Spokane County authorities released the 911 calls made from inside a Mead home where police say a woman was stabbed to death.

Jeff Canino, 46, has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his wife, Michelle, Wednesday morning. Police say Canino then turned the knife on himself. Family members say the couple's 11-year-old son saw the incident and struggled to take the knife away from his father after calling 911 multiple times.

Producers, reporters, and management listened to the calls, and agreed they were some of the most disturbing audio tapes ever heard. The calls play out the horrific sounds of a woman being murdered in her own home.

Because of the graphic and chilling nature of those calls, KREM 2 News and KREM.com have decided to only broadcast a potentially key part of the case against Jeff Canino -- the portion in which Michelle names her killer.

The two calls last less than two minutes. In the first call, it's clear something terrible has happened inside the home, as Michelle Canino's screams are deafening. The son is heard pleading with his parents not to fight.

At one point, Michelle gets on the phone:

Dispatch: It's 4518?

Caller: Yes

Dispatch: And it's East Woodglen?

Caller: Yes… Hurry

Dispatch: Who stabbed you?

Caller: My husband.

Dispatch: Your who?

Caller: My husband.

Dispatch: OK, I'm going to have you speak to our dispatch, stay on the line, OK?

Caller: Yeah.

Police say when they responded to the home, Michelle was already dead. Her son answered the door with cuts to his hands. He was taken to the hospital and released to his grandparents.

Jeff Canino remains hospitalized after undergoing emergency surgery to repair the stab wounds he sustained when police say he stabbed himself.

Family members say Jeff may have been troubled by the possibility of losing his job at a local car dealership in the next year.
