SPOKANE -- Washington State University veterinarians tested a meatball found on a Spokane woman's property last week and confirmed the harmful chemical strychnine was found in it.
The woman's dog died after eating one of the poisonous meatballs near the Palouse Highway and Regal on Spokane's South Hill. Two other dogs died after eating meatballs found near 55th and Freya.
More meatballs were found around the 3300 block of East 55th, and on the 900 block of East 36th. No animals died in those cases.
Both SCRAPS and SpokAnimal are investigating the incidents. They are urging pet owners to watch closely over their pets while outside.
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poisoning these dogs if testing confirms poison.
