SPOKANE -- Sheriff's detectives have arrested one suspect in connection with a July 30th shooting that disrupted traffic on Bigelow Gulch Road and left a man with a gunshot wound to his head.

The shooter, 24-year-old Christopher T. Jackson, was booked into the Spokane County Jail Tuesday night on a single count of First-Degree Assault.  Detectives searched his home in the 8900 block of East Bigelow Gulch, but found only bullet casings.

They also recovered the bullet that struck the victim, but the identity of the second suspect and whereabouts of the pistol used in the incident remain unknown.

Detectives said tips from drivers in the area of the incident led to the identification of Jackson as the shooter.

On that July Friday at about 5:45 p.m., a man and two women were northbound on Thierman Road approaching Bigelow Gulch when they passed Jackson and a second pedestrian walking on the west shoulder.

The male victim who was driving saw the two suspects raise their arms in what he believed was a gesture of disrespect.  He turned around so that he was driving southbound and as he passed the two, yelled out his open window and swerved the car slightly toward the pair.

After he was past he turned around again and headed north past the two men a third time.

About 75 feet down the road a female passenger looked back and saw Jackson pointing at the car.  She yelled for everyone to duck and a bullet entered the rear window, passed through a rear headrest and past the female's head, and grazed the male driver's head through his baseball cap.

She and the driver swapped positions and she drove him to the Spokane County Fire Station at Bigelow Gulch and Jensen Road for help.  The victim was transported to a hospital and later released.

Detectives are still actively investigating the shooting and ask that anyone with information regarding the second suspect or pistol call Crime Check at 456-2233.
