SPOKANE - Black Friday shoppers lined up hundreds deep at stores around the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene area, despite the economic hard times during the country's recession.
At the Best Buy in north Spokane, the people at the front of the line showed up at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving to get a chance at the best deals inside at the electronics dealer. Shoppers were soaked from the overnight rain, but they walked in one-by-one through the door when it opened at 5:01 a.m.
Managers inside said their customers were orderly and most knew exactly where they were going.
At the Target in north Spokane, shoppers were herded into lines outside with shopping carts being used by the store workers as corrrals. Shoppers there were also orderly as they flooded into the store when doors opened at 5 a.m. The parking lot at the Northpointe shopping center was as full at 5 a.m. as it usually is in the middle of a weekend day.
According to one shopper, the best deals at Target included a $9 vacuum and a $350 40-inch LCD television.
Many shoppers told KREM 2 News that the recession was curbing some of their spending, but not their tradition of hitting stores when the doors opened.
