SPOKANE -- Spokane County Animal Control suspects another dog ate a poisoned meatball on the South Hill. Authorities say the latest incident was just blocks from a pair of dog deaths last month.
On Friday a homeowner, who had two of his dogs die late February, found another poison meatball in his yard. On Monday, SCRAPS said the meatball was probably left-over from the first incident. In that case, the dog owner reporting seeing his pet stumble and saying his dog looked drunk. The dog was rushed to a veterinarian who saved the dog's life.
The veterinarian analyzed the content in the dog's stomach and told SCRAPS it could have possibly contained a meatball. The material will be analyzed at the Washington State University Veterinarian school Tuesday.
Investigators say a dog that died of poisoning on the lower south hill did not test positive for strychnine. But officials do not know what the poison was in that case. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is helping SCRAPS and Spokanimal in the investigation.
