COEUR D'ALENE -- Investigators have discovered that there was no air in the tank of a diver found floating in Coeur d'Alene Lake.

The man, identified as Mike McCullough, in his mid-20's from Rexburg, Idaho was working for a contractor who picks up golf balls and other debris from the lake bottom in the area.  His body was found floating near the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course Floating Green Tuesday.

An autopsy shows there were no indications of any other trauma or medical factors that contributed to his death.

Investigators say McCullough was wearing his dry-suit, weight belt, buoyancy compensator and dive tank.  He also had a large basket of golf balls fastened to his equipment.  The rescuers cut the tank, buoyancy compensator and the golf balls from him in order to be able to lift him into the boat.

Investigators say Tuesday was McCullough's first day of diving for contractor Bob Hamilton.  McCullough had previously been certified to dive in Southern Idaho, but according to family members, had not been diving since 2007.

The investigation is continuing, but initial results point to a tragic accident.

This is totally traumatic. Who was checking the tanks? Evidently no one.

Great job reporting, KREM: rule number one, never dive alone! Two, you have to know how many balls you can lift out of the lake! How sad. My heart goes out to the family!
