SPOKANE -- The City of Spokane Hearing Examiner has given a preliminary approval that would okay the entire Kendall Yards development.
In April, permits were approved to begin construction on the first phase of the downtown housing development. Now, Thursday's approval allows for the remainder of Greenstone Homes' development plans to go forward.
Greenstone hopes to build 900 homes -- single-family units, condos, and townhouses -- on the 78-acre area just north of the Spokane River, off Monroe. The space would also eventually include commercial businesses.
The original owner of Kendall Yards, Marshall Chesrown's River Front Properties, sold the land to Greenstone in November for about $20 million.
Kendall Yards was once heralded as one of the keys to revitalizing Spokane.
