SPOKANE -- The investigation into what happened to a recent Washington State University graduate on a dark Palouse road last month is moving forward.
Whitman County Sheriff's deputies say they plan to meet with Kristen Grindley, 23, for the first time next week since she was found bleeding and unconscious in the middle of Pullman-Albion Road.
Drivers blocked the road to keep other cars from hitting Grindley when she was found. One caller told a 911 dispatcher he thought she was a deer.
Detectives believe Grindley was either thrown from a vehicle, or hit by one and then left alone.
Several people have been questioned in the case so far, including Grindley's boyfriend she lived with at WSU, Richard Pasma. Authorities say Pasma was arrested last April after a WSU Police officer witnessed him slap her. Grindley told the officer she had hit Pasma just minutes before, and all charges were dropped.
Grindley is recovering with treatment at Spokane Rehabilitation Center. Sheriff's detectives plan to meet with her next week to decide whether she's made enough progress to answer questions about what happened.
