CLARK FORK, Idaho (AP) — A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service forensics lab has determined that sausage left on a North Idaho hiking trail had been spiked with an insecticide.
The Bonner County Daily Bee in a story published Sunday reported that Fish and Wildlife, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and criminal investigators from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency say they are continuing to investigate.
In April a Bonner County woman hiking trail No. 1184 with three dogs came across the sausage, killing one of the dogs that ate it.
Investigators also found more sausages in the area.
Matt Haag of Fish and Game says the sausage could have been consumed by a child because it was placed right in the walking trail.
But officials say whoever put out the sausages was likely targeting wildlife, such as wolves.
